Introduction to MAX phase ceramic materials

Release time :2020/07/25

It is a new type of processable ceramic materials, including Ti3SiC2, Ti2AlC, Ti3AlC2, V2AlC, Ti2SnC, Mo3AlC2, Nb2AlC, etc. Synthesis methods: Hot pressing, hot blasting, etc.
MAX phase (including Ti3SiC2,Ti2AlC, Ti3AlC2, V2AlC, Ti2SnC, Mo3AlC2, Nb2AlC, etc.) is a new type of processable ceramic material. The material consists of more than fifty kinds of ternary carbides or nitrides. M stands for transition metal element; A is the main group element; X stands for carbon or nitrogen. Ti3SiC2 is the most widely studied. Ti3SiC2 was synthesized by hot pressing in 1996 by Professor Barsoum of D Rexel University, USA, and its excellent properties were found. Due to its unique nanometer layered crystal structure, such materials are self-lubricating, highly ductile and conductive. These materials can be widely used as high-temperature structural materials, electrode brush materials, chemical preservative materials and high-temperature heating materials. Since 1996, research on such materials has been carried out extensively in Japan, Europe and China. MAX phase ceramics have excellent properties of metals and ceramics, and have great application potential in many high-tech fields such as aerospace, high-speed rail and nuclear industry.
